Are You Open?

The New Year is upon us and it brings with it a time for us to reflect on the previous year while deciding on what new ventures to open up. It is important to plan your progress. Plan the direction that you want to go in your life so that you are able to accomplish what you want out of life.

Sometimes, this may mean changing out of your comfort zone and being open to new ideas. Be open to new challenges. It’s like the old saying goes, ‘you don’t know until you try.’ Step out on a limb and apply for a new job, leave a job that you are not happy with, or move to an entirely different state. These things may be challenging, but they will open up new doors that may not have opened up without taking that first leap of faith.

You may need to be open to changing the group of people you consider your friends. Many times, when we are on a mission of growth, our friends and family are the main ones pulling against us. I call that negative energy. In my opinion, one can not move forward when surrounded by negative energy. Be open to ‘unfriending’ those that may not be true friends in the first place.

You only live once and being open will allow you to also try new experiences. Do some soul searching and decide on what things you may want to check off of your bucket list this year.

So, here is your homework….

List the top 5 things you are going to be open to this year. Be it finding new friendships, crafting new experiences, or taking a few calculated risk. Feel free to list your top 5 in the comments section. You never know, you may just spark some ideas for others!

Here are my Top 5:

1. Take a family trip to a place that we have not been before.
2. Learn to play the sax.
3. Begin my study of yoga.
4. Swim with the dolphins.
5. Get passports for all members of my family.

We all realize that we are alive, but we just aren’t living our lives to their full potential. We concentrate on the negative aspects of life, but we don’t look at all we have to be happy about in our lives.  The simple fact that we woke up this morning is better than many.  The fact that we can turn our computers on, read what we want to read, and then turn it off when we are ready is such a blessing.

My post today is not about counting our blessings (although that is very important), my thought today is more about living each day to the fullest.  It is easy to get into a rut, but take this as a friendly reminder not to be afraid to laugh and act silly. Go for your goals and don’t look back.  LIVE!
